The course is to develop a thorough understanding of the business world, business administration, financial management, marketing, computing and Information technology, communication skills and service sector skills; to further students’ decision-making and communication skills and apply what the students have learnt in real world assignments.

To get ahead in today's business world, students have to be competent in a wide range of business skills. The course equips students with the skills to reach their goals, whether they can't wait to start their business career or are planning to move on to higher-level business study. Students also develop their communication, problem-solving, decision-making skills and learn to work independently and as part of a team. They will get to work on real-world assignments and learn from lecturers with plenty of industry experience.

The National Diploma in Business Level 6 qualification is to enable students to acquire a broad range of management skills in order to manage and supervise staffing in business; to provide students with broad knowledge and skills of operational Management and Skills; the course aims to target International students from Asian and European countries such as India, China, Korea, Japan and Eastern European countries. New Zealand permanent residents will also be able to apply for this qualification; to provide learners an entry pathway to study at Degrees level in New Zealand universities as well as other tertiary institutions offering study in further business and management qualifications; to provide international students who may wish to work in the business community, and use the management knowledge of the business and how to use this knowledge to successful establish their own businesses; to encourage further learning opportunities at Degrees level in business.

Students who complete the National Diploma in Business Level 6 will be able to:

• Devise strategies to instruct, supervise and appraise staff.
• Maintain effective interpersonal and professional relationships.
• Manage an organization and take responsibility for the day to day operation of a full scale business.
• Attain knowledge and decision making skills in important aspects of a particular business community, including marketing and research business development.

On completion of this course students will have a good knowledge of the management and technical skills associated with the New Zealand business world as well as a thorough understanding of the operations and the middle management practices undertaken in a business. The qualification can lead onto university degrees in commerce or directly into the workforce as a competent business manager.

Course Structure

The course will be a full time 36 weeks programme, completed over two semesters of 18 weeks each. The course is embedded in the structure of 6 components, consists of 127 credits and involves students committing to 1270 hours of learning. Student work is assessed by means of tests, research assignments and team based project work. Much student work involves applying course concepts in actual business case studies. Students will undertake 24 hours of study per week.

Entry Requirements

Entry is open to students who have completed National Diploma Level 5 or overseas equivalent or reached the age of 20 years.
Students who do not have English as a first language will need to show that they are capable of successfully completing the course by meeting at least one of the following entry conditions:

An IELTS score of 6.0 (With no individual band less than 5.5)
OR
Passed the Royal Business College Entry Test
